Nutrition

This is still a work in progress: Chuck 8/21/2103

Though I created this site six months ago, I had not placed any text on this page. The placeholder has sat like a blank slate for all this time. The fact of the matter is that I forgot to go back to it and it wasn’t until my friend and WOD partner Diana, told me it was empty. So here I am.

It is just as well that I waited, though my philosophy on nutrition remains consistent, my application of it is still evolving.

Most people simply accept the fact that I “eat Paleo”, but that is a term that is fraught with misperceptions or even disagreement among Paleo advocates.

The term “Paleo” seems to have originated from Dr. Lorne Cordaine. His premise was that we needed to get back to our roots as humans. This is based upon his understanding of human evolution. What man ate in the Paleolithic era is subject to speculation, but I do agree that cavemen did not live on Big Macs, Fries, Coke and Doritos. In fact, I suspect our ancient ancestors would not have even recognized one item from that menu as food.

The concept of rejected manufactured foods, for “real food” or “whole food” is gaining ground. Subtle and sometimes not so subtle differences may be labeled as Primal, or Ancestral. Many of these nuances are splitting hairs. Did ancient man drink milk? Coffee? Tequila? Does a pure Paleo diet permit beer or wine? Let’s quit splitting hairs.

While I label myself as Paleo, it is simply shorthand to state that my general philosophy on nutrition is to get back to a food that is recognizable by my senses and my gut, as real. I want it as close to the state it was plucked from the ground as possible. I want my meat to be a recognizable as it would be if I carved it off the carcass myself.
